The structure of the overpass is an arc. The span of the reinforced concrete arch is 56 m and the span is 7.325 m (f/l = 1/7.645), which is considered to be a relatively slender structure for this type of structure. These parameters are determined in particular by the height gauge to be provided for the future tramway route.
The span of the continuous slab between the column-walls is 8.8m + 4×6m + 8.7m + 4×6m + 8.8m. The total length of the overpass is 75.9 m.
The total width of the slab is 13.5 m, which includes a 9.0 m wide carriageway and two 1.5 m wide sidewalks.
The required gauge under the overpass and the slope of the overpass plan limit the width of the arch to 5.0 m, in addition the arch is designed with a variable thickness from 75 cm at the clamping point to 60 cm at the crest.
A 4.5 m wide column-walls and 4.5 m long side cantilevers of the carriageway slab are provided above the arch. The cross bracing above the column-walls is provided with individual Monostrand tensioned cables.
The column-walls are made flexible (40 cm thick), which allows their ends to be firmly clamped into the arch structure and the slab. The exception is the two shortest supports in the middle of the arch, which are connected to the slab through a concrete joint to relieve the high bending moment.
In 2011, this structure was awarded 1st place with the nomination "Best Structure of the Year in Latvia 2011" in the competition organised by the LBA (Latvian Builders' Association).
