The Riga Northern Transport Corridor is the largest transport infrastructure project in Riga in recent decades. At the end of 2011, JSC Ceļuprojekts completed a sketch design of Stages 3 and 4.
In 2015, a contract was signed for the execution of the "Riga Northern Transport Corridor Stage 1 (part of the Riga Northern Transport Corridor from the A2 national motorway (Riga - Sigulda) near Berģi to Gustava Zemgala gatve (Eastern Motorway)) technical design".
The design includes solutions for the construction of a motorway (design speed 70 -90 km/h) with a total length of 9.8km. The motorway is designed with two carriageways, each with 2-3 lanes in each direction, as well as local lanes. The solutions include a number of two-level interchanges, as well as bridges over water courses and significant retaining wall structures. Street lighting along the entire route and a closed storm water collection system were designed. The construction design includes solutions for the reconstruction and/or relocation of water supply, sewerage, storm water collection systems, heat supply, gas supply, electricity supply and high voltage networks, as well as low voltage communication lines. Extensive geotechnical investigations were carried out as part of the design works.
